CONCERT ALERT: Odd Future East Coast Tour

Attention east coasters. Well…East Coast, Midwest and Canada. Odd Future has announced a tour in your area! If you are unaware of this crew you should seriously check out some tunes and stop by one of these shows. From what I’ve seen on the internets, they put on a crazy good performance! Check out the dates and stops below!

WATCH: Das Racist “Ek Shaneesh”

If you’ve been searching endlessly for the perfect mix between M.I.A. and Asher Roth… then I have a surprise for you! Enter: Brooklyn’s ecclectic trio, Das Racist.

Check out their video for “Ek Shaneesh” and commiserate with me that we’re unable to see them at this year’s SXSW in Austin, Texas. And for those of you lucky enough to see them… I want to be you.

COVER OF THE DAY: Jessie J Covers The Naked & Famous

For those of you who don’t know Jessie J (I didn’t but I’ve been lagging in my music lately) she is a british pop singer who I think is comparable to Lily Allen or Natasha Bedingfield. So she stopped by BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to perform some of her songs as well as this cover of The Naked & Famous’s “Young Blood” and cover she did. I like this cover better than her songs! Listen below and if you want to find out more on Jessie J just go to her Myspace Page here.

Watch: Odd Futures on Jimmy Fallon

Holy crap…Odd Futures performance on Jimmy Fallon was..well…odd. And yet amazing! Jumping around the stage like crazy people, jumping on Jimmy Fallon’s back at the end and to top it off Mos Def showing up? Watch below.

LISTEN: Jessica Lea Mayfield – “Our Hearts Are Wrong”

Although this singer has had 2 previous albums, I just now ran across Jessica Lea Mayfield. Like many comments on YouTube, you just can’t put a finger on what it is with this chick that makes her so appealing. Whatever it is it works. She has a hauntingly beautiful voice, somewhat reminding me of 90′s rock, but also sounding a little country at times. Hopefully that doesn’t scare anyone off. The first single “Our Hearts Are Wrong” off her newly released album Tell Me reminds me of something on my bathtime playlist…you know when you take a bath and light a bunch of candles and just relax. You can download this song for free at Jessica’s website and if you like it, the album is also available for purchase on iTunes.

NEW ARTIST ALERT: The Naked And Famous “Young Blood”

Loving this new youth-anthem by fresh New Zealand indie-rockers The Naked and Famous. Check it out and share your thoughts.

New Artist Alert: Celebration

The Baltimore based band recently caught my attention on another blog (I Guess I’m Floating) and the more I listened to their music the more I want to hear. The band consists of three members: Katrina Ford, Sean Antanaitis and David Bergander. Their upcoming album Hello Paradise will be released digitally and on vinyl through Friends Records out of Baltimore and consists of some great psychedelic songs – each representing a card in a virtual tarot deck. Crazy. Cool. Awesome! Although the digital version will be given away for free at Friends Records, I highly recommend purchasing the vinyl. The sound of this album is perfect for listening on a record player…thats just my opinion, take it or leave it. I have lots of opinions and they are all right. Anyway, check out “Battles” below from Celebration’s upcoming release and if you want to hear more go to Friends Records. And is it just me or is there parts of the song where Katrina sounds like Grace Slick?

NEWS: Britney Spears to Release New Album in March

According to Ms. Spears’ Twitter her new album will be released this coming March. The album is going to have a more electronic feel to it and is going to be produced by Dr. Luke who has worked with Britney in the past as well as Katy Perry, Pink and Ke$ha to name a few. Are you excited for her new album?

NEW ARTIST ALERT: Grouplove

Last Sunday we attended the Florence + The Machine concert at The Wiltern in LA…amazing amazing show. I’m glad that we made it to the show to catch the opening bands, one of which I was extremely impressed with: Grouplove. They had this great energy in their performance, even though they were the opening opening band I thought they played as if they were the main act. I loved their sound too…very west coast indie pop. Grouplove’s song “Gold Coast” was featured on the Sorcerer’s Apprentice Soundtrack and they are going to be starting a residency at Bootleg Theater (for all you Los Angeles peeps) in January 2011. They will also be releasing a full length album in 2011…they could possibly become my new Local Natives (blasphemy!!). Listen to the songs below and check out their interview with Los Angeles Times here.
