LISTEN: Lupe Fiasco – “The Show Goes On”
We have all been patiently awaiting Lupe’s album Lasers for well..almost 3 years now. The album release date had been pushed back numerous times by the record label and has finally been solidified as March 8, 2011. Why the long wait? Maybe it is due to record labels’ obsession with hit songs, if you don’t have one your album is not being released. Digital Music News, in a recent article, quoted Lupe from a Dayton, OH show saying the following about the album making process:
“The record company sent me a song and said, ‘Lupe we need a number one smash, and this is a number one smash,’ and they sent a track and the hook, and they sent me seven of those,”
“It’s so ridiculous that when I recorded the verses and sent it back to them, they called me back and told me they didn’t like the hook anymore. And they changed the hook 60 times.”
Perhaps this is why the album was pushed back so many times! The track below titled “The Show Goes On” features a guitar sampling from Modest Mouse’s “Float On” which is thankfully much better than all the 80’s songs that have been sampled lately. yuck. One can only take so much! This track is lighter than previous Lupe but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good. The song is available for purchase through iTunes now. Check out the song below!
