Mashup of the Day: “Red Hot Chilipop” -Lil Wayne & Kanye West vs. Red Hot Chili Peppers

My co-blogger sent me a YouTube mashup yesterday and thus sparked an hour long visit to the site listening to mashups. It’s always so addicting when the “Other Videos Similar” pop up and you keep on choosing videos…all of a sudden you’ve been on YouTube for an entire day. Here is a cool mashup I found of Lil Wayne & Kanye West vs. Red Hot Chili Peppers= awesome. Enjoy!

Cover of the Day: The Pretty Reckless – “Islands/Love The Way You Lie” Mashup

I feel like a total jerk for even posting anything about The Pretty Reckless. If you are unaware this band is fronted by Gossip Girl’s Little Jenny, real name Taylor Momsen. And also if you not aware she acts like a total asshole most of the time, like a miniature Courtney Love! As much as all these things together should turn me off to the band…I .. kind…of …like it. Perhaps I need music rehab or something but I find that they sound similar to Hole which I like and was also fronted by the very person she acts like. I wonder if that was done on purpose? Anyway here is a cover that The Pretty Reckless did which is a mashup of  Rihanna’s hook from “Love the Way You Lie” and “Islands” by XX. This comes after Tay Tay dissed Rihanna so it seems that she is doing a little back peddle dance. Check it out below.

The Problem With Pop Music

Finding true talent in pop music is harder to find than the proverbial needle in a haystack. Nonsense lyrics, obnoxious special effects, and recycled beats are what you will find on any Top 40 radio station.

Exhibit A: the video below harmoniously mashes up Kesha‘s “Tik Tok,” Katy Perry‘s “California Gurls,” and Miley Cyrus‘ “Permanent December.” They’re the SAME song, but each with their own, unique (read: stupid) lyrics.

MASHUP: Smells Like Rockin’ Robin

Nirvana x Jackson 5 = something both my grandma and I could appreciate. Check it.

TGIF: “Shanty Town”

My Friday recommendation = Shanty Town by Desmond Dekker.

At first listen it sounds like a smooth, happy ditty about sunshine and world peace. Don’t be fooled — it’s the nicest sounding song about murder and crime. Ever. But Jamaicans are known to infect minds with political messages via sweet beats (i.e. Buffalo Soldier).

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better than this, someone awesome peppered in Mos Def and birthed a little mashup called  History Town (listen below). Bonus — you can download the full FREE mashed-up mix tape here. TGIF!
