COVER OF THE DAY: Jessie J Covers The Naked & Famous

For those of you who don’t know Jessie J (I didn’t but I’ve been lagging in my music lately) she is a british pop singer who I think is comparable to Lily Allen or Natasha Bedingfield. So she stopped by BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to perform some of her songs as well as this cover of The Naked & Famous’s “Young Blood” and cover she did. I like this cover better than her songs! Listen below and if you want to find out more on Jessie J just go to her Myspace Page here.

Cover of the Day: Yeasayer Cover Seal’s “Crazy”

I’m really digging this cover Yeasayer performed on Triple J’s “Like A Version” (which is the Australian equivelant of  UK’s BBC 1 Radio) of Seal’s “Crazy”. Who doesn’t love this song…or any Seal song! Come on you know whenever “Kiss by a Rose” comes on you jam out to it in your car and think of the worst Batman movie ever made. I like how Yeasayer took this song and made it so unique without overdoing it, plus there is a tamborine which takes it to a next level…all we need is a kazoo. Listen below (Thanks SKOA)!

Rocking the Ukulele: Jake Shimabukuro Plays “Bohemian Rhapsody”

I have never thought to myself “hey! I need to go purchase a Ukulele based album.” At least not until watching this video of Ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro covering Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”. I’ve never been one for strictly instrumental songs but if they sounded like this I would be snatching up every album out there. Jake, who has been playing Ukulele since he was 4, has toured with Jimmy Buffett and was featured on Yo-Yo Ma’s holiday album. Check out the video below and if you like what you see go to Jake’s website.

Cover of the Day: Adele – “Lovesong” (The Cure)

Basically anything with “Adele” in the title is going to be good. The cover of The Cure’s “Lovesong” will be on her upcoming album 21 which everyone is excited about, including my Dad oddly enough. I love when parents call you and say “Hey…have you heard of this Adele? Just caught her song Rolling in the Deep on the radio….good stuff”. Exact quote from my father. Anyway, listen to the cover below!

UPDATE: Song keeps getting taken down…boo! Check it out at SKOA.

‘The Lady Killer’ just made my day 10x better by covering the newest single by Kings of Leon. Further proof that Cee-Lo has a Midas Touch.

LISTEN: Amy Winehouse feat. Quincy Jones – It’s My Party (Lesley Gore Cover)

Well it seems that Amy Winehouse has pulled herself together enough to record a track…although it isn’t a new new song. The cover of Lesley Gore’s “It’s My Party” was produced by Mark Ronson and will be featured on the Quincy Jones tribute album Q: Soul Bossa Nostra which is due out November 9th. There had been past rumors that Winehouse was kicked off the album but apparantly that isn’t true! Other artists contributing are: Ludacris, Jennifer Hudson, Jamie Foxx, Robin Thicke, Mary J. Blige and more! Listen to the song below and let us know what you think.

Another Cover Of The Day: Darwin Deez does Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream”

Check out the Darwin Deez rendition of Katy Perry‘s pubescent lovesong “Teenage Dream.” Keep your ears open for the funny additions like “sex” and “Russell Brand.”

Cover of the Day: The Suzan – “Paranoid” by Kanye West

As we have blogged before ( see post), The Suzan are pretty awesome girl group who’s debut album Golden Week For the Poco Poco Beat drops October 26th through Fool’s Gold. Now they have done a cover of Kanye’s “Paranoid” (via The Fader) which comes off a little more creepy…good creepy. It’s slow and very minimalistic on the instruments which gives a new twist to this track. Listen below and download at The Fader!
