WATCH: Das Racist “Ek Shaneesh”

If you’ve been searching endlessly for the perfect mix between M.I.A. and Asher Roth… then I have a surprise for you! Enter: Brooklyn’s ecclectic trio, Das Racist.

Check out their video for “Ek Shaneesh” and commiserate with me that we’re unable to see them at this year’s SXSW in Austin, Texas. And for those of you lucky enough to see them… I want to be you.

COVER OF THE DAY: Jessie J Covers The Naked & Famous

For those of you who don’t know Jessie J (I didn’t but I’ve been lagging in my music lately) she is a british pop singer who I think is comparable to Lily Allen or Natasha Bedingfield. So she stopped by BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to perform some of her songs as well as this cover of The Naked & Famous’s “Young Blood” and cover she did. I like this cover better than her songs! Listen below and if you want to find out more on Jessie J just go to her Myspace Page here.

LISTEN: Jessica Lea Mayfield – “Our Hearts Are Wrong”

Although this singer has had 2 previous albums, I just now ran across Jessica Lea Mayfield. Like many comments on YouTube, you just can’t put a finger on what it is with this chick that makes her so appealing. Whatever it is it works. She has a hauntingly beautiful voice, somewhat reminding me of 90’s rock, but also sounding a little country at times. Hopefully that doesn’t scare anyone off. The first single “Our Hearts Are Wrong” off her newly released album Tell Me reminds me of something on my bathtime playlist…you know when you take a bath and light a bunch of candles and just relax. You can download this song for free at Jessica’s website and if you like it, the album is also available for purchase on iTunes.

Cover of the Day: Yeasayer Cover Seal’s “Crazy”

I’m really digging this cover Yeasayer performed on Triple J’s “Like A Version” (which is the Australian equivelant of  UK’s BBC 1 Radio) of Seal’s “Crazy”. Who doesn’t love this song…or any Seal song! Come on you know whenever “Kiss by a Rose” comes on you jam out to it in your car and think of the worst Batman movie ever made. I like how Yeasayer took this song and made it so unique without overdoing it, plus there is a tamborine which takes it to a next level…all we need is a kazoo. Listen below (Thanks SKOA)!

LISTEN: Lady Gaga – “Born This Way”

Lady Gaga is channeling her inner Madonna in her first single “Born This Way” off her upcoming album with the same name due out in May. I do not want to make any preemptive  judgements but so far I am just meh about this. The song sounds very “been there done that” to me but we will just have to wait and see what the rest of the album holds! Listen below and let us know what you think of the track.

Rocking the Ukulele: Jake Shimabukuro Plays “Bohemian Rhapsody”

I have never thought to myself “hey! I need to go purchase a Ukulele based album.” At least not until watching this video of Ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro covering Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”. I’ve never been one for strictly instrumental songs but if they sounded like this I would be snatching up every album out there. Jake, who has been playing Ukulele since he was 4, has toured with Jimmy Buffett and was featured on Yo-Yo Ma’s holiday album. Check out the video below and if you like what you see go to Jake’s website.

LISTEN: Peter, Bjorn and John – “Second Chance”

This song has just made me excited for PBJ (HA!) new album. Not that I wasn’t before…actually I wasn’t. Listen to the track “Second Chance” off their upcoming album Gimme Some.

Cover of the Day: Adele – “Lovesong” (The Cure)

Basically anything with “Adele” in the title is going to be good. The cover of The Cure’s “Lovesong” will be on her upcoming album 21 which everyone is excited about, including my Dad oddly enough. I love when parents call you and say “Hey…have you heard of this Adele? Just caught her song Rolling in the Deep on the radio….good stuff”. Exact quote from my father. Anyway, listen to the cover below!

UPDATE: Song keeps getting taken down…boo! Check it out at SKOA.

LISTEN: Kanye West & Jay-Z – “H.A.M.”

The first track off the highly anticipated Kanye/Jay-Z collab album Watch The Throne has officially dropped this morning. Kanye’s current album was named Top Album of 2010 on basically every list out there and it seems to be flowing over to this one. I don’t think you could possibly go wrong with this collaboration album. at.all. Listen to “H.A.M.” (hard as a motherfucker) below!

UPDATE: Well the youtube videos keep on being removed so if you want to check out the song follow this link:

Yet another track leak from Lykke Li’s upcoming album Wounded Rhymes out March 1st. We’ve loved all the tracks so far, what about you?
